TransIP alternative: veldhost and TransIP compared honestly
TransIP is a large Dutch provider with its own data centres in the Netherlands, mailboxes in every web hosting package and a wide range from domains to VPS and cloud. veldhost is smaller and does one thing: managed hosting where we look after the technology, the backups and the move for you, on servers in Germany. Below is what you get with each, and when TransIP is the better choice.

Or import a backup yourself. | You move the site yourself (a backup, uploaded over SFTP) with TransIP’s guide; its WordPress migration plugin works with its WordPress, Managed WordPress and Managed WooCommerce products. |

When TransIP is the better choice
- You want your website hosted in the Netherlands. TransIP uses its own data centres in Amsterdam and Delft/Alblasserdam; our servers are in Germany.
- You need several mailboxes. Core includes 5 mailboxes of 2 GB; with us every mailbox is €2 a month extra.
- You want hourly backups at no extra cost. TransIP keeps hourly backups for 30 days; ours are weekly, daily as an add-on.
- You want domains, hosting, VPS and cloud from one provider. We do not sell domain names and our range is much smaller.
- You want to phone someone: TransIP offers phone advice during office hours. We work by email only.
When veldhost fits better
- You would rather not touch the technology. We run the server, updates, HTTPS, DNS and backups, and we move your site for you, free, instead of you uploading a backup over SFTP.
- You need one site and few or no mailboxes. Starter is €5 a month ex VAT from the first month; Core is €9.99 after its introductory period. Do count your mailboxes.
- You want to try it first: 14 days free on every plan.
- You want one container per site and a SQL workbench, warehouse and dashboards over your site data in the same plan.
Switching
Switching from TransIP to veldhost
Your old hosting keeps running until you are happy. The move is free on every plan.
- Pick a plan and start the 14-day free trial. Your site at TransIP keeps running as it is.
- Request a free migration with the form, or import it yourself: upload a backup (a plugin export, or your files plus a database export), paste a download link, or let the importer pull it over SFTP.
- We copy files, database and mailboxes and put the site on a preview address. Nothing changes at TransIP yet.
- Check the preview. Then point your domain at us: the domain stays registered where it is, you only change its nameservers, and the dashboard copies your existing DNS records first.
- Once the site runs and your email arrives here, cancel the hosting at TransIP, but keep the domain registration: we do not sell domain names.
TransIP’s control panel lets you download your files over SFTP; a WordPress site can also be exported with a backup plugin. Your domain can stay registered at TransIP.

Questions about TransIP and veldhost
Is veldhost cheaper than TransIP?
It depends on what you need. veldhost Starter is €5 a month ex VAT. TransIP Core is €9.99 a month ex VAT after an introductory rate of €1 a month for the first 3 months (checked on 2 October 2026). Core includes 5 mailboxes; with us each mailbox is €2 a month. Few mailboxes: veldhost tends to cost less; many mailboxes: TransIP does.
Where are the servers?
veldhost runs in Germany, in Falkenstein and Nuremberg, on servers rented from Hetzner and operated by us. TransIP hosts in its own data centres in the Netherlands. Both are in the EU; if a Dutch location matters to you, TransIP fits that requirement and we do not.
Can I keep my domain name at TransIP?
Yes. We do not sell domain names, so your domain stays registered where it is. You only point its DNS at us: the dashboard copies your current records first and tells you which nameservers to enter. Keep paying TransIP (or any registrar) for the domain registration itself.
Do you move my email as well?
Yes. The free migration covers your files, database, mailboxes and DNS. On veldhost each mailbox is an add-on of €2 a month ex VAT, so count the mailboxes you really use before you switch.
Is veldhost connected to TransIP?
No. veldhost is an independent Dutch sole proprietorship in Enschede and has no connection with TransIP. The facts about TransIP on this page come from its own website, checked on 2 October 2026; prices and packages change, so check its site for the current situation.
