Your site starts on a free yourname.apps.veldhost.eu address. Connecting your own domain takes one form and one change at your registrar — and the domain itself stays registered where it is.
Have email or other records on the domain already? Use Move your DNS to veldhost first: it reads what your domain publishes today, copies it into your veldhost DNS before anything changes, and gives you registrar-specific nameserver instructions. Then come back here to connect the site.
1. Add the domain to your site
- Open your site in the portal → Domain tab.
- Enter your domain (e.g.
example.com) and save. We issue the SSL certificate automatically.
2. Point the domain at us
Two options — the Domain tab shows both with your exact values:
- Easiest: switch your domain's nameservers to ours (
ns1.veldhost.euandns2.veldhost.eu). We then manage all records for you, and email/DNS features work out of the box. The move-your-DNS wizard copies your existing records first and shows the exact steps for your registrar. - Keep your current DNS: add the A records shown on the tab at your registrar.
Domains registered with veldhost
If you registered the domain through us, you don't go anywhere else: open Domains → your domain and you can see the nameservers actually on file at the registry (and what public resolvers are answering right now), switch between our nameservers and your own, manage DNSSEC, unlock the domain for transfer, and renew it.
Using your own nameservers
You can point a domain registered with us at any DNS provider — pick Use my own nameservers on the domain page. We keep your zone and all its records here, so switching back is one click and nothing has to be rebuilt.
One thing to know if DNSSEC is on: the registry currently vouches for the key we sign your zone with, so moving the domain before that record is withdrawn would make security-checking resolvers refuse it. The page handles this for you — use Prepare to move away, which turns DNSSEC off (your site carries on working exactly as before) and tells you the moment the switch is safe, normally 24 hours later. If your new provider also does DNSSEC, paste the DS record they give you and we'll publish it alongside ours, which removes the wait entirely.
Nameservers that live under the domain itself (like ns1.yourdomain.com) need extra records at the registry that we don't set up automatically — ask us and we'll arrange it.
How long does it take?
Usually minutes; nameserver changes can take up to a day to reach everyone. Your old site keeps working until the switch completes — there's no gap.
