# Set up email on your phone and computer

> The IMAP/SMTP settings for iPhone, Android, Outlook and co.

Source: https://veldhost.eu/docs/email-on-your-phone

Your veldhost mailbox works in any mail app on your phone, tablet or computer. Choose **IMAP** (not POP) when asked: IMAP keeps your phone, your laptop and webmail in sync, so a message you read or delete in one place is read or deleted everywhere.

## The settings

You need these in every app below. They are also shown under **Email** in the dashboard, on your domain's page.

```
Username:  your full address (hello@example.com)
Password:  the mailbox password
Incoming:  IMAP · imap.veldhost.eu · port 993 · SSL/TLS
Outgoing:  SMTP · smtp.veldhost.eu · port 465 · SSL/TLS           (or port 587 · STARTTLS)
```

Outgoing mail needs authentication: use the same username and password as for incoming mail. Menu names below can differ slightly between app versions; the settings never do.

## iPhone and iPad (Apple Mail)

1. Open **Settings → Mail → Accounts → Add Account**, choose **Other**, then **Add Mail Account**.
2. Enter your name, your full email address, the mailbox password and a description, and tap **Next**.
3. Choose **IMAP**. Under *Incoming Mail Server* enter host `imap.veldhost.eu`; under *Outgoing Mail Server* enter `smtp.veldhost.eu`. Use your full address and password in both.
4. Tap **Next**, then **Save**. If the account does not verify, open it again under *Advanced* and check that SSL is on and the ports are 993 (incoming) and 465 (outgoing).

## Android (Gmail app)

1. Open the Gmail app, tap your profile picture and choose **Add another account → Other**.
2. Enter your full email address, tap **Manual setup** and choose **Personal (IMAP)**.
3. Enter the mailbox password. For the incoming server enter `imap.veldhost.eu`, port 993, security SSL/TLS.
4. For the outgoing server enter `smtp.veldhost.eu`, port 465, security SSL/TLS (or port 587 with STARTTLS), with *Require sign-in* on.

Using Samsung Email or another Android mail app? The steps are the same: add an account, choose manual setup and IMAP, and fill in the settings above.

## Outlook on Windows

1. Add an account: in the new Outlook go to **Settings → Accounts → Add account**; in classic Outlook choose **File → Add Account**.
2. Type your full email address. If Outlook offers a list of providers or *Advanced options*, choose to set up the account manually and pick **IMAP**.
3. Incoming: `imap.veldhost.eu`, port 993, encryption SSL/TLS. Outgoing: `smtp.veldhost.eu`, port 465, encryption SSL/TLS (or port 587 with STARTTLS).
4. Enter the mailbox password and finish. When it works, Outlook opens your inbox.

## Outlook on Mac

1. Open **Outlook → Settings → Accounts**, click **+** and choose **New Account**.
2. Enter your full email address and continue. When Outlook asks for the provider, choose **IMAP/POP**.
3. Choose type **IMAP** and enter the incoming and outgoing servers and ports from the settings above, with SSL on for both.
4. Enter the mailbox password and click **Add Account**.

## Apple Mail on Mac

Choose **Mail → Add Account → Other Mail Account**, enter your name, address and password, and click **Sign In**. If Mail cannot find the servers itself, choose account type **IMAP** and enter the incoming and outgoing servers above.

## Thunderbird

Choose **Account Settings → Account Actions → Add Mail Account**, enter your name, address and password, then **Configure manually**. Pick IMAP and enter the servers, ports and security above; authentication is *Normal password*.

## Something not working?

- **Receiving works but sending fails?** Check that the outgoing port is 465 (SSL/TLS), or 587 (STARTTLS) on networks that block it, with authentication ON — the same username and password as incoming.
- **"Wrong password"?** The username is your full address, not only the name before the at sign. You can set a new mailbox password under **Email** in the dashboard.
- **A brand-new domain?** Allow up to an hour for the mail DNS records to work everywhere.
- **No mailbox yet?** See [create an email address on your domain](https://veldhost.eu/docs/create-a-mailbox).
